Cera Coat Antibacterial Agent for Coatings

Antibacterial Cera Coat uses environmentally friendly, non-aromatic solvents such as acrylic monomers and does not generate VOCs (volatile organic compounds). This new, environmentally responsible product employs safer inorganic antibacterial agents such as silver compounds, making it safe, health-conscious, and suitable for a wide range of applications.

Features

1) Because the solid component consists of submicron particles, it disperses extremely well. It is suitable for a wide range of coating methods (spraying, roller coating, curtain coating, and electrostatic coating) and printing processes (gravure, offset, and screen printing, among others), with virtually no effect on coating-film properties such as adhesion and stain resistance.
2) It uses environmentally friendly, non-aromatic solvents such as acrylic monomers and is a low-toxicity, environmentally responsible antibacterial agent.
3) Supplied as a dispersion, it can be added directly at the job site without wasting coating material or ink.

Addition Rate

The addition rate of antibacterial Cera Coat is generally expressed as the percentage by weight of antibacterial solids relative to the resin solids in coatings, paints, printing inks, and similar products, as shown below:

Coating Type Cera Coat Antibacterial Agent Addition Rate (Example)
Water-based coating 0.5–1.0%
Amino-alkyd resin coating 0.5%
Solvent-free epoxy resin coating 0.5–1.0%
UV-cured polyethylene resin coating 0.5–1.0%
UV-cured polyurethane-acrylate resin coating 0.5–1.0%
Two-component polyurethane resin coating 3.0–10.0%
Baked acrylic-melamine resin coating 5.0–10.0%
Moisture-cured polyurethane resin coating No effect

Note 1: Based on JIS Z 2801, “Test for Antibacterial Activity and Efficacy of Antibacterial-Treated Products,” with an antibacterial activity value of 2 after 24 hours as the criterion.

Directions for Use and Precautions

1) Antibacterial Cera Coat may settle in the container. Before opening, vigorously shake the container back and forth by hand 10–20 times to restore the product to a free-flowing liquid state.
2) After opening, first add thinner and mix thoroughly, then add the coating material. Mix thoroughly using a conventional method such as a mechanical stirrer.
3) Adding the product directly to the coating base can cause gel formation, and direct addition to a coating may result in poor dispersion. Direct addition to UV-curable floor coatings, however, presents no problem.
4) After prolonged storage (six months or more), antibacterial Cera Coat may undergo secondary agglomeration. Stir thoroughly until redispersed before use.

Grades

Grade Solids Content Primary Solvent Primary Application Average Particle Size (Reference)
C7152 50% Acrylic monomer UV-curable resin coatings and inks (including UV floor coatings) 0.8–1.0 μm
C6153 50% Butyl acetate Polyurethane coatings, baked melamine coatings, etc. 0.8–1.0 μm

Note 1: Carton (ten 1 kg cans).
  2) This VOC-free antibacterial Cera Coat is intended for UV-curable resin coatings and inks. Do not use it in solvent-based coatings.
  3) The low-toxicity-solvent grade of antibacterial Cera Coat is suitable for solvent-based coatings.
